Arianne Dorval

Détentrice d’un doctorat en anthropologie culturelle de l’Université Duke aux États-Unis, Arianne Dorval œuvre depuis plus de douze ans en tant que traductrice dans le domaine des sciences humaines et sociales.

Elle a notamment traduit du français vers l’anglais les livres Le pentecôtisme au Brésil. Émotion du pauvre et romantisme théologique du politologue André Corten (Macmillan), Démocratie sans Démos de la philosophe Catherine Colliot-Thélène (European Consortium for Political Research), Une Armée noire de l’historienne Pauline Peretz (à paraître prochainement chez Cambridge University Press), des chapitres d’ouvrage d’auteurs tels que Pierre-Michel Menger, Éric Charmes, ou Leïla Vignal, ainsi qu’une centaine d’articles pour la revue en ligne La Vie des Idées.

Parmi ses traductions de l’anglais vers le français figurent des dizaines d’articles pour des revues telles que L’Homme, Anthropologica ou encore Les Cahiers de L’Herne. Elle a récemment traduit cinq chapitres de l’ouvrage Black French Women and the Struggle for Equality (1848-2016), dirigé par les politologues Silyane Larcher et Félix Germain (à paraître prochainement aux Éditions du Seuil sous le titre Marianne est aussi noire).

Arianne Dorval holds a PhD in cultural anthropology from Duke University, where she defended a dissertation on the political subjectivation of Marseille sans papiers in 2014. She has since been working as a professional translator specialized in the field of social sciences and humanities.

Her translations from French to English include Pentecostalism in Brazil: Emotion of the Poor and Theological Romanticism (Macmillan) by political scientist André Corten, Democracy without Demos by philosopher Catherine Colliot-Thélène (European Consortium for Political Research), and Une Armée noire by historian Pauline Peretz (forthcoming publication with Cambridge University Press). She has also translated from English to French dozens of articles for academic journals such as L’Homme, Anthropologica, and Cahiers de L’Herne, as well as chapters from the collective volume Black French Women and the Struggle for Equality (1848-2016), co-edited by political scientists Silyane Larcher and Félix Germain (forthcoming publication with Éditions du Seuil).
