Juliette Tran

Juliette Tran is a PhD candidate in American Studies at Paris 8 University. Her dissertation project—“Kentucky as America: Narratives and Memories of the First American West, 1783-1893”—aims at demonstrating that the colonization of Kentucky in the eighteenth century was remembered by Americans as the first “conquest of the West,” and that the stories and memories of that conquest served as cultural rationale for the expansion of the US in the nineteenth century. She is also interested in ethnohistory and the history of Native-European relations.
