Matthias Knuth, sociologist, is director of the research unit “Labour Market - Integration - Mobility” at the Institute for Work, Skills and Training (IAQ) in the University of Duisburg-Essen, where he was appointed associate professor.
His fields of research are mobility on the labour market, labour market policies, international comparison of labour market policy reforms, employment of older workers and the integration of ethnic minorities. He was involved in several evaluations of the German labour market reforms. He has recently published articles on the effects of the German reforms on ethnic minorities (AWR-Bulletin, vol. 48, no. 2-3), on people with poor health (Social Policy and Society, vol. 9, no. 3), on the role of municipalities in labour market policies (European Journal of Social Security, vol. 12 no. 3), and about the different categorizations of people with health problems in national systems of social protection (Journal of Social Policy, vol. 39, no. 1).
